CEO Student Kelsey Wermert Donates Event Proceeds from Time For Tea

Effingham CEO student Kelsey Wermert recently presented proceeds from her event, Time For Tea, to Blessings in a Backpack. Time For Tea was the result of the year-long CEO class, which offers local students the opportunity to learn about businesses, meet with community business leaders, develop and present their own businesses at the CEO Trade Show. The donation from the event will feed approximately 14 children on the weekends for an entire school year.

Ms. Wermert explained her business development and admiration for the mission of Blessings in a Backpack, “So many people have done so much for me over the past year in CEO Class, and it was a cool feeling to be able to pay it forward in a way with my tea party. Being that my event was for children, I wanted the charity I donated to be kid-friendly as well. Blessings in a Backpack is huge for our community, and a lot of people don’t realize the need we have for their services right here in Effingham. I want to thank Jansen’s Dance Center, Overbeck Photography, Sugar N Spice and Everything Nice, Stang Arts, and all those who helped on the day of the event for donating their time and talent. I also want to thank Heartland Dental for their donation. Without the help of these generous individuals and businesses, my event wouldn’t have been possible.”

Amanda Emmerich, Marketing Director of the Effingham chapter of Blessings in a Backpack said, “We are so blessed when young people like Kelsey actively engage with our mission to feed children. Her enthusiasm and professionalism is the cornerstone to her event’s success. Her donation will feed 10 children for one entire school year. That’s a major accomplishment, and we’re grateful for her dedication, generosity and kind spirit.”

Blessings in a Backpack- Effingham IL provides food for 500 children from pre-k through eighth grade, over weekends during the school year. Their summer program feeds children in conjunction with the Unit 40 Mentoring lunch program at West Side School. Community support has enabled the group to grow significantly during its three years in service to Effingham area students.
