Evelyn Bailey

Union County CEO's Facilitator

Mrs. Bailey brings an unusual mix of educational and business experience to the Union County CEO program.

While teaching for 34 years in Union County classrooms, Mrs. Bailey was an educational “intrepreneur”, always looking for ways to make learning interesting and meaningful in new ways. During that time, she served as President of the 15 county Southern Illinois Reading Council and was asked to help lead a statewide marketing initiative targeting caregivers of young children.

Her teaching career overlapped slightly with al 10-year career in Real Estate built upon her connections with students and their families, local businesses, and her willingness to learn new ways of communicating and marketing. Her journeys throughout beautiful Southern Illinois with clients helped develop a further appreciation for our unique area. Knowing that real estate sales is greatly affected by the economic conditions of a region, she became involved in local and regional economic development organizations. She has been a member of the Union County Economic Development Board and the Union County Chamber of Commerce and has held leadership positions with Union County Women in Business helping to develop the Locally First initiative.

“I consider it an honor to be chosen to be the facilitator of this transformational opportunity for Union County students. I have been amazed by the ongoing support from our business community. Everyone who has experienced any part of this program wants to stay involved! Having completed our first year, I have seen the difference this program can make in a student’s demeanor , outlook , and self confidence in just a few months. I can only imagine what the positive long-term effects will be for these individual young people and for our community.

“Having been a part of the school community, I understand the complications of working with their schedules to be able to have students from 5 different schools attend our 7:30-9:00 am class. We hope in time some of the schedule conflicts can be resolved so that more students can participate.”

Mrs. Bailey earned both her Bachelor and Masters degrees from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

In their free time, she and her husband Bill, retired A-J CHS advanced science teacher and HER facilitator, enjoy traveling and spending time with their children Ryan, Laurel, and Darren, their spouses and the young grandchildren.
